Industries Using Deionized Water >>

Contact General Water
Industrial and commercial deionized water systems supplied by General Water are used in a variety of applications and industries.

Auto and Truck Body Finishing
Deionized water and water with low levels of silica are recommended for cleaning and rinsing prior to paint finishing.

Deionized water systems are used in boilersBoilers (reprinted here with permission from George Crits)
Large volumes of deionized water are used in plant boilers. As shown in the chart below, as the boiler pressure increases, the water quality requirements increases. Contact your boiler manufacturer for specific water quality requirements for your make and model boiler.

Boiler Pressures TDS/ppm Alkalinity/ppm> Silica/ppm*
0 - 300 psi 175 35 5-6.5
301- 450 psi 150 30 2.5-5.0
451- 600 psi 125 25 1.7-2.5
601- 750 psi 100 20 1.2-1.7
751- 900 psi 75 15 0.8-1.0
910-1000 psi 62 12.5 0.30-0.40
1001-1500 psi 50 10 0.10-0.15
2000+ psi <0.10 <0.05 <0.05
*To prevent more than 0.02 ppm silica in steam which may glaze turbine blades.

Bottled Water, Breweries & Distilleries
Water for process purposes in breweries, bottled water and distilleries is treated mainly large extent with granular activated carbon for the removal of chlorine by-products. Reverse Osmosis, separate bed deionizers or mixed bed deionizers may be required to keep water quality consistent for product quality

Food Processing Plants
All water used in food processing must meet with the U.S. Public Health Service (USPH) bacteriological and chemical requirements for drinking water.

Hospitals & Institutions
Require water softeners or water deionizers to feeds to boilers, laundries, humidifiers and sterilizers.

Laundries
Commercial laundries and industrial laundries use water softeners to remove hardness and reduce the amount of soap and detergent used in the cleaning process

DI water systems are used in chemical plants.Chemical Plants
There are a variety of uses for softened water or deionized water in a chemical plant including boiler feed water treatment, process water, rinse water, and in many cases, cooling water treatment.

De-ionized water is often required for pharma manufacturing to meet USP regulations.Cosmetic and Pharmaceutical
Depending upon the application, water for pharmaceutical use must meet the U.S. Pharmacopoeia (USP) requirements.

Deionized water systems are used semiconductor manufacturing for electronic rinse water.Semiconductor Plants
As line widths in silicon chip circuitry become finer and the electrical devices become smaller, specifications for electronic rinse water requirements grow progressively more stringent. Also, the specifications of high purity water qualities are often the limits of what is attainable at a given time or "state of the art".

Textile Plants
All sectors of the textile industry use large amounts of water from the beginning of the processing operations through the dyeing process.
